Mountain Rescue Volunteers receive Long Service Awards
Celebration and thanks was on the agenda as Sport Northern Ireland Chair Dominic Walsh presented long service achievement certificates amassing 50 years service to both the Mourne and North West Mountain Rescue teams at the Northern Ireland Mountain and Cave Rescue Coordinating Committee (NIMCRCC) Annual General Meeting in Belfast recently.
Sport Northern Ireland through the NIMCRCC facilitates the coordinating of all the civilian teams with the statutory emergency services involved in mountain and cave rescue in Northern Ireland. The Sport Northern Ireland Chair was therefore delighted to distribute long service awards to member of the rescue teams. He commented:
“I congratulate the teams for their dedication and courage. It is important to recognise the hard work and commitment of every member. They give up their time voluntarily saving lives 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are an asset to the community.”
Two members of the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team received long service awards, David Corbett and Kieran Mulholland for five and ten years service respectively.

While four members of the North West Mountain Rescue Team received awards for their service including; Ken Reid for five years service and Maud Cunningham, Joan Gribin and Kevin Brolly all of whom have 10 years service.

The Northern Ireland Mountain Cave and Rescue Coordinating Committee brings together the joint expertise of all those involved in mountain, cave and cliff rescue. These teams include;
The PSNI Mountain Rescue Team,
The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team,
The North West Mountain Rescue Team and,
The Irish Cave Rescue Organisation
The teams also have a close working relationship with the other emergency agencies such as Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, Search and Rescue Dog Association and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. |
