Ulster Championships all set to 'Bloom'
Swim Ulster Ltd and Bloomfield Shopping Centre continue their
successful partnership for this year’s Bloomfield Ulster Open Short
Course Championships.
Held in Bangor Castle Leisure Centre between 18th and 20th December this
is Northern Ireland’s most prestigious swimming gala and is always a
memorable event.
Swimmers from all over Ulster will be competing to win or achieve personal bests
in over 44 categories during this fast paced event which is a must for swimmers
and spectators alike. Heats start each day at 10am.
It will be Bloomfield Shopping Centre’s second year as a sponsor of such an
event. Centre manager Jamie Bill said ‘I’m not alone in really looking forward to
this year’s Bloomfield Ulster Championships. It is an inspired move by Swim Ulster
to bring the event to Bangor meaning this will be very much its traditional home
by the time the new 50m pool opens’.
Names to look out for this year are:
Conor Donnelly (featured in the picture)is Junior Ulster Record holder in
400m freestyle and Ulster Senior record holder in 800m and 1500m freestyle
At the Irish Youth / Open Long Course Championships, Conor was the fastest
17 year old in 200m freestyle, 400m Individual Medley and 1500m freestyle.
Conor also won a bronze medal in the 17 yrs 200m butterfly and a silver in the
400m freestyle.
Ashleigh Hyland (featured in the picture) – Competed in the World University Games in July. Achieved the qualifying times for the Commonwealth Games 2010.
Sycerika McMahon was Ulster’s top performer at the recent Irish Short Course Nationals winning gold and setting new Irish Junior Records in the 100m and 400m freestyle, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 100m, 200m and 400m Individual Medley. Sycerika also won silver medals in the 50m breaststroke and 200m freestyle, setting 2 more Irish Junior Records!
Steven McQuillan – Irish record holder in 50m and 100m Butterfly. Competing in
the European Championships in Istanbul in December. Competed at the World University Games in July. Achieved the qualifying times for the Commonwealth
Games 2010.
Conor Leaney - Competing in the European Championships in Istanbul in December. Competed at the World Championships in July. Achieved the qualifying times for the Commonwealth Games 2010.
Michael Dawson – Competed in the Junior European Championships in July.
Achieved the qualifying times for the Commonwealth Games 2010.
Melanie Nocher - Irish record holder in 100 and 200m backstroke. Competed in
the World University Games and World Championships in July. Competing in the European Championships in December. Achieved the qualifying times for the Commonwealth Games 2010.
Clare Dawson – Competed in the World Championships in July. Competing in the European Championships in December. Achieved the qualifying times for the Commonwealth Games 2010.
Chelsey Wilson - Achieved the qualifying times for the Commonwealth Games 2010.
